Our governance
ITAB was created in 1982 by organic only organizations, including Grab (Groupe de recherche en Agriculture Biologique - Organic Agriculture Research Group). Its initial purpose was to serve as both a liaison institute between regional organic farming research stations and an institute collaborating with research organizations, in particular INRAE. An association under the French law of 1901, ITAB now has 54 members (legal entities) divided into 10 colleges. Its Association Board is composed of 30 administrators.

Between 2017 and 2021, ITAB adopted new statutes that allow new stakeholders to join its Association Board, such as technical and higher education institutions, environmental associations, and other civil society actors.
As is fairly typical for an association, ITAB is governed by an Association Board appointed by the General Assembly. The Board organizes the election of the President and ensures that an executive committee is formed.
